In the United States the African American | Black Population represents approximately 48 million people (14.7% of the U.S. population) and is a community with major influence, especially in certain states and urban areas. 

In Canada, the Black population accounts for nearly 3.5% of the total population and 15.6% of the population defined as a visible minority and is still growing.
